Event in support of Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Beirut

  • Church of the Messiah (Fisher House) Woods Hole, MA (map)

The Falmouth and Woods Hole Friends of Burj al Barajneh will hold a Middle Eastern Evening on Friday, July 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fisher House of the Church of the Messiah in Woods Hole.

The third annual Middle Eastern Evening event will support the Nour Center, an informal education program for Syrian and Palestinian youth created by residents of Burj al Barajneh refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon.

The Falmouth community has supported the Nour Center since its creation in 2014, helping the Center expand from serving 25 children each day to now providing educational programming to over 150 children ages 5-20, most of whom do not otherwise have access to formal schooling. The Center provides academic programming, social-emotional support, and vocational training for its students, and is staffed by men and women from the camp. Lucia I. Mock, resident of Falmouth and consultant with the Nour Center, will give an update on current projects at the Center and hopes for the upcoming year.

The event will feature food, live music and pictures from the Nour Center. Admission is free and all are welcome. Tax deductible donations will be accepted. For more information please contact Lucia Mock at 508-524-7118.
