Candidates for Town Meeting Member: Precinct 6

Martha Asendorf

Why are you running to be a Town Meeting member?

I have been a Town Meeting member for 20+ years. I enjoy staying informed on important Precinct Six and Town-wide issues, participating in local discussions and representing Precinct Six at Town Meeting.

What issues in Falmouth are you most concerned about?

Precinct Six issues include water quality related to the Water Treatment Plant, and local homes as well as the condition of Chapoquoit Beach, and the increased flood zone. Other Precinct Six issues are the need for full-time staffing of the fire station including a truck, sidewalk clearing and repaving Route 28A and Palmer Avenue due to the gas main work.

Town of Falmouth concerns include increasing various department staffing to pre-recession numbers, and making sure we have the fire, police and DPW staff to keep citizens safe and our parks, roads and infrastructure in good working order. We have done well with a new Water Treatment Plant, sewer work and the planned Senior Center. We need to continue to plan ahead for municipal needs including affordable housing for young people and seasonal workers and recreation facilities for all ages. Water quality, creative waste management, energy management and the continuing drug crisis will be issues for years to come.

What is your favorite place or activity in Falmouth?

I am fortunate to live near the bike path and walk it daily with my dog. It is a narrow park where neighbors see each other and catch up on local news. I am also within walking distance of Black Beach, and enjoy the quiet seclusion of that area. As a long-time teacher, it's fun to see students in town as they grow. I love the connected feeling of Falmouth.

Why are you running to be a Town Meeting member?

It has been my privilege to represent the citizens of Falmouth and in particular precinct 6 for more than a dozen years. The issues we discuss and debate on town meeting floor determine the future direction of our community. I hope you will re-elect me so I may continue to learn, debate, and bring forward discussion on the topics of importance to our diverse electorate.
