Candidates for Town Moderator

David Vieria

Why do you want to run for this office?

I have the greatest respect for the town meeting form of local government. When I ran for the open moderator seat in 1998, I told the Board of Selectmen I wanted to put my name into nomination so that I could help preserve this form of government. I believe that the success of the town meeting process rests in the voters having confidence in town meeting as an institution. The Town Moderator is perhaps the most important position in building and maintaining that trust in the town meeting. 20 years later, I am running for reelection for the same reason.

What qualifications do you have for this position?

I have served as Town Moderator since 1998, have served 4 terms (12 years) as a director of the Massachusetts Moderators Association, and continue to value and love the institution of town meeting.

What issues would you plan to address if elected? How would you do this?

Staying impartial when in the chair is very important and focusing on the legislative process is paramount to the success of a moderator. I will continue to engage the Town Meeting Rules and Procedures Committee (of which I am the first Falmouth town moderator to appoint such a committee) to review our rules and procedures and make necessary adjustments.

What is your favorite place or activity in Falmouth?

Town Meeting of course!
